St. Thomas More Catholic Church

St. Thomas More was opened in a suburb of Pretoria, South Africa called Monavoni in February 1998. Previously the church belonged to the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa.

Approximatly 25 parishioners attended the first services, but the parish had grown and after only one year we can boast a congregation of almost 300 committed people.

We have large grounds on which the church and hall were built, and also have a lapa (similar to a gazebo with a thatch roof), which is used for many of our social events. We were extremely furtunate in being given an existing church which wsa purchased for us by the Diocese of Pretoria, and we were able to furnish the inside of the church (the altar, chains, etc) thanks to a generous donation from one of our other parishes in Pretoria, Maria Regina Catholic Church in Lyttleton.

Our full time caretaker, Tom Mpinde, lives on the premises, with his dog Rex, and opens the church every day except Mondays, for any persons who may wish to communicate with our Lord.
